Was welcomed into town by the sunlit peaks of Table Mountain and the evening's reflection from the city below. I thought I was dreaming.
After getting through immigration I met up with Gabe, Jeff, and John at the hostel. It's not too shabby, and the backpackers here are all very interesting. There's a German girl who cooks around here, a couple of Algerians who remind me of Ron Weasley's older brothers, a few English dudes who I think are old enough to afford a hotel room, and an Indian guy who's been traveling by himself for the past two weeks! And then there's us. The Americans.
After quick introductions, we all sat at the hostel bar to watch the France play Mexico…God, France is terrible this time around. I could almost hear their fans around the world chanting, "Zizou! Zizou! Zizou!" hoping their savior might somehow make an appearance and rescue the team from embarrassment. We all miss him.
So our first game is tomorrow: England v. Algeria…I can't say that I'm gonna be in a "rational state of mind" for it! Videos to ensue...
